Groovy...

Another Christmas has come and gone....it's amazing how the older I get, the faster the year goes. Dagan got alot of nice presents this year, mainly toys but also clothes and money. He really loves the toy guitar my sister gave him. He also got a LIttle People tractor and dump truck. Mark gave me new ball earrings in white gold and gold, and a new red long sleeve sleepshirt. I gave him a Taco Bell t-shirt (to know him is to love him) and the movies Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. If you have not seen either of these movies, you must have a certain sense of humor to enjoy the bad special effects and general weirdness of it. Mark was excited to see Evil Dead because he hadn't seen it in over 20 years. We also bought ourselves a new VCR/DVD player because the old one would not play picture and sound at the same time. Alot of things we planned to do this year got done and some didn't, but our main concern is our son and his health and wellbeing.

Christmas in the Park

Dagan got to sit on santa's lap again this evening at Our Christmas in the Park here in town. He did an excellent job, no tears, just kinda looked around and looked at Santa like he looks at anyone else. We saw alot of our friends there, including Dagan's future girlfriend. They were smiling at each other and she gave him her candycane. Awww.... Saturday is the big birthday party. Can't wait.

Working on Veterans Day

Although it is Veterans Day today, we still have to finish the paper, so I am at work and Mark is at home with Dagan. I wish I could be at home with them.

Dagan met Santa for the very first time Sunday. A local floral shop was featuring pictures with Santa with their Christmas open house. He didn't cry. He just looked at Santa like who is this guy? Then we got his attention long enough to snap a few pictures, and he was done. I also took him and Janice (my mother-in-law) shopping Saturday. He was a good traveler and had a lot of fun people watching. I bought him a stocking for St. Nick and a dinosaur book. He's really getting into books now.

I can't believe Thanksgiving is 2 weeks away and Dagan's birthday is less than a month away!

Dagan's first Halloween

Dagan enjoyed his first Halloween. We didn't do alot of trick-or-treating, it was more of showing him off to people. We went to my parents house, Mark's parents house and to my cousin Heather's house. All in all he did very good. Today we took family pictures and shots of Dagan by himself. I can't wait to see those!

I have HSP!

I finally have a diagnosis. This describes exactly what I have been dealing with since I can remember.

Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP). "This term is used to describe a group of rare, inherited neurological disorders along the motor neuron disease continuum whose primary symptom is progressive spasticity (stiffness) and weakness of the leg and hip muscles. HSP is caused by degeneration of the upper motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The main symptom of HSP is progressive difficulty walking due to increasingly weak spastic leg muscles. Initial symptoms include difficulty with balance and stubbing the toe or stumbling."

There is a 50% chance that I can pass this to Dagan. Doctors aren't sure if it happens more in boys or girls. But since only my mom and I have it and we have no boys in the immediate family to compare to, it's a wait and see what happens kinda of thing.

Gone camping!

We took Dagan on his first camping trip this past weekend to Lake Texana. We had a pretty good time. The weather was nice but the bugs were biting. Of course, we didn't go swimming but Gillian and Dagan splashed around in the kiddie pool Brenda packed. It's hard to take Dagan anywhere now because he wants to walk and we couldn't let him down in the dirt. Thank goodness we had a little tent along so the kids could play inside and stay out of the dirt.

Doing ok......

Finally, somehow, I figured out how to get a new post. THANKS Kim Brandt!

So the biopsy on my arm went ok. I have a pretty ugly scar now on my left bicep. The doctor in Houston said that I have to come back AGAIN to have a MRI of my pelvis. I will also get the results from the muscle biopsy, and he asked if my mom would come too, because he wants to examine her and see if I got this from her.

I am looking forward to camping this weekend. We are going Saturday and spending the night at Lake Texana. My sister and her family are going Friday night, but I don't want to push Dagan's limits with 2 nights away from home. He hasn't spent a night away from his own bed yet, so this should make for an interesting trip. My parents are going also. My dad is always cool and laid back, but my mom can be such a 'mother-in-law'. I don't know what her problem is lately, she just isn't like she used to be. Maybe is has to do with aging, idk.

Dagan is walking better, not smooth but he is really trying. Tooth number 6 is coming in. I got a peak at it when Dagan was eating supper last night. He has a gap between his two front teeth. It's pretty cute. He is going to be a skeleton for Halloween. I can't wait.
